The buckskin from which these shoes are sewn was made entirely by my hand. The raw skin of a deer was turned to soft, supple leather through a labor-intensive process of soaking, wringing, stretching, drying, and smoking. The shoes are patterned precisely to my own feet, and have been useful on many a forest walk. In the making and wearing of these shoes, I engage in the conversation between death and rebirth. The skin which once protected a deer now protects my feet, and I am grateful.
